Kennan Institute Talk

I will give a one hour presentations of photographs that I made in Novosibirsk, USSR during the Carter Detente (1978). These somewhat intimate and revealing portraits were made with a special polaroid film that yielded both the print I gave to the sitter and also a negative that I was able to get out of the USSR with my access to the diplomatic pouch. A book of those images was published in 5 countries and they have been seen at many museums including MoMA in NYC.

Tuesday, November 17th • 2pm
Kennan Institute at the Woodrow Wilson Center for Peace
Daniel Patrick Moynahan conference room
1300 Pennsylvania Ave. NW
Washington DC 20004.

Izabella Tabarovsky Kennan Institute’s Manager for Regional Engagement, will join me for a discussion. She was growing up in Novosibirsk when I was there making these photographs and will shed some personal as well as scholarly light on these pictures.

There will be an American Sign Language interpreter.
I hope some people from the Deaf community will be able to come.

Please register for the event so you name will be with security.
Seating is quite limited.

Please come early as there is quite a bit of security at this building.
I will get there by 1:30 PM.

"Summer of Love"

This series of photographs were made as the Lower East Side morphed into the East Village in the late 60's. The book is in its final stages of design.  I am still looking at possible publishers, if
